Pipedream Slack steps in n8n

Slack is the most common last step in Pipedream workflows: something happened, post it to a channel. n8n has a native Slack node and a Slack Trigger, and the converter handles the message actions automatically.

Text, channel, mrkdwn and thread_ts from the Pipedream step go into the request body unchanged, so Block Kit JSON and mentions keep working.

Credentials

Two options in n8n:

OAuth2 – recommended by n8n for the Slack node. Works for the converted HTTP Request nodes.
API access token – a bot token (xoxb-…) and optional Signature Secret. Required for the Slack Trigger; OAuth2 is not supported there.

Steps for a bot token: create a Slack app, add the bot scopes you used (chat:write, channels:history, …), install it to the workspace (admin needed), copy the token. If you turn on token rotation, tokens expire after 12 hours and rotation cannot be turned off later.

Typical migration: alert on new Stripe dispute

Pipedream: Stripe New Dispute → Slack Send Message to Channel. n8n: Stripe Trigger → HTTP Request (chat.postMessage). Narrow the Stripe Trigger's event list, connect the Slack credential, test.

Pitfalls

One Request URL per Slack app. Event Subscriptions point to one URL. Moving the trigger to n8n stops Pipedream's events for that app, and n8n's test and production URLs also compete. Many teams create a second Slack app for n8n.
Watch whole workspace in the trigger runs one execution per event; in busy workspaces that adds up.
Signature checks in the trigger need n8n 1.106.0 or newer.
Rate limits. chat.postMessage is about one message per second per channel. A loop that posts 200 items will be throttled; aggregate into one message.
Search. Node 2.7+ search needs a user token and AI features on the Slack app (or Keyword Search Only); Slack throttles it to about 10 requests a minute.
