Pipedream Notion steps in n8n
Updated 2026-10-21 · 3 min read · n8n: Notion (Native n8n node)
Notion workflows in Pipedream tend to be "log it to a database": a form, an email or an LLM summary becomes a page in a Notion database. n8n has a native Notion node and a Notion Trigger; the main change is how access to pages is granted.
The n8n side
Notion node (n8n-nodes-base.notion):
| Resource | Operations |
|---|---|
| Block | Append After, Get Many, Get Markdown |
| Data Source | Get, Search |
| Database | Get |
| Database Page | Create, Get, Get Many, Update |
| Page | Archive, Create, Get Markdown, Search, Update Markdown |
| User | Get, Get Many |
Notion Trigger: Page added to database, Page updated in database. It checks the database on a schedule rather than receiving Notion webhooks.
What maps where

In n8n | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Create Page from Data Source / Create Page | Notion → Database Page → Create (or Page → Create) | manual, 1 node |
| Update Page | Database Page → Update | manual |
| Append Block to Parent | Block → Append After | manual |
| Query Data Source / Get Page | Database Page → Get Many / Get | manual |
| Create Comment, File Upload actions | HTTP Request with the Notion credential | manual |
| New Page in Data Source, New or Updated Page in Data Source (By Timestamp / By Property) | Notion Trigger | manual |
| New Webhook Event (Instant) | n8n Webhook node, then re-register in Notion | manual |

The converter has no Notion actions in its mapped list yet, so Notion actions show up in the free report as manual steps, each with its original properties (database ID, property values) in a comment, which makes the rebuild quick.
Credentials
- API integration token (internal integration): create an integration at notion.so/my-integrations, copy the secret, then in Notion open each database or page → Connections → add the integration. Without this step n8n gets "object not found".
- OAuth2 (public integration): needs Notion's security review; useful only if many workspaces connect.
Typical migration: email to Notion task
Pipedream: Gmail New Email → OpenAI Chat (summarise) → Notion Create Page in Database. n8n: Gmail Trigger → OpenAI (Chat converted automatically) → Notion → Database Page → Create. Map Title, Status and Date properties in the node, share the database with the integration, test with one email.
Pitfalls
- Rate limit. Notion allows 180 requests per minute (about 3 per second), 600 per minute on Business and Enterprise, plus a per-workspace limit, and answers
429 rate_limitedwithRetry-After. A loop over 300 rows needs batching or a Wait node. - Payload size. One request carries at most 100 block children per array and 500 KB.
- Relations. n8n's common-issues page: only two-way relations show up in the node.
- Empty values. Null or empty property values cause validation errors; filter them out with an If or Edit Fields node first.
- Toggle headings cannot be created directly by the node.
- Data sources. Notion's newer API splits databases into data sources; Pipedream's new triggers already use that word. Pick the right one in n8n.
How to move your Notion workflows
- Export from Pipedream.
- Upload on /convert. The free report lists every Notion step with its props.
- Download the n8n JSON: 1 workflow is free; full export: $3 per workflow, $19 minimum — coming soon.

FAQ
- Does n8n have a Notion node and trigger?
- Yes. The Notion node works with blocks, data sources, databases, database pages, pages and users. The Notion Trigger fires on Page added to database and Page updated in database.
- Do Pipedream Notion actions convert automatically?
- Notion actions are not in the converter's automatic list yet. They arrive as marked placeholder nodes with the original props; most rebuild as one Notion node. Code steps that call the Notion API convert automatically.
- Why does n8n say it cannot find my database?
- With an internal integration token, every page or database must be shared with the integration via Connections in Notion. Pipedream's OAuth connection had its own page access; it does not carry over.
- Which credential should I use?
- For your own workspace, the API integration token (internal integration) is simplest. OAuth2 needs a public integration, which Notion reviews.
