Pipedream Microsoft OneDrive steps in n8n

Updated 2026-10-21 · 3 min read · n8n: Microsoft OneDrive (Native n8n node)

OneDrive workflows on Pipedream store and pick up files in Microsoft 365: an Outlook attachment is saved, a new file in a folder is processed. n8n has a native Microsoft OneDrive node and a Microsoft OneDrive Trigger, so both sides map directly.

The n8n side

Microsoft OneDrive node (n8n-nodes-base.microsoftOneDrive):

Resource Operations
File Copy, Delete, Download, Get, Move, Rename, Search, Share, Upload (up to 4 MB)
Folder Create, Delete, Get Children, Move, Rename, Search, Share

Microsoft OneDrive Trigger (polling): On File Created, On File Updated, On Folder Created, On Folder Updated; you can watch a specific folder or the whole drive.

What maps where

Pipedream (app microsoft_onedrive) In n8n Status
Upload File File → Upload (≤ 4 MB) or HTTP Request upload session manual
Download File File → Download manual
Create Folder Folder → Create manual
Search Files, Find File by Name File → Search manual
Get File by ID File → Get manual
List Files in Folder Folder → Get Children manual
Create Link File → Share manual
New File Created (Instant) Microsoft OneDrive Trigger, On File Created manual
New Folder Created (Instant) Microsoft OneDrive Trigger, On Folder Created manual

OneDrive actions are not in the converter's mapped list. Each step arrives as a placeholder with its props (path, folder ID) in a comment, and the report lists the Microsoft OneDrive credential to create.

Microsoft OneDrive credentials in n8n

The node's Authentication field offers three options:

  • OneDrive OAuth2 (default): register an app in Microsoft Entra ID with the account type "any organizational directory and personal Microsoft accounts" and n8n's redirect URL.
  • Microsoft OAuth2 (Graph): one generic Microsoft credential for several Graph calls; grant Files.ReadWrite.All.
  • Microsoft Entra Service Principal (App-Only): for unattended server access without a signed-in user.

Government clouds need the matching Graph API base URL.

Typical migration: Outlook attachment to OneDrive

Pipedream: Microsoft Outlook New Email → OneDrive Upload File (/Invoices). n8n: Microsoft Outlook Trigger (download attachments) → Microsoft OneDrive → File → Upload (Parent Folder ID of /Invoices, binary property of the attachment). For PDFs over 4 MB, swap Upload for an HTTP Request upload session.

Microsoft OneDrive migration pitfalls

  • 4 MB upload limit in the node. Graph's simple upload goes up to 250 MB; the node stops at 4 MB. Larger files: createUploadSession, then upload in chunks.
  • Folder IDs in Microsoft 365. OneDrive for Business runs on SharePoint; find folder IDs with Folder → Search rather than copying them from the URL.
  • Polling delay. Pipedream's sources used Microsoft Graph subscriptions (webhooks); the n8n trigger polls on a schedule, so events arrive later. Set a short poll interval if timing matters.
  • Personal vs business drives. A credential set up for one account type can fail on the other; match the app registration to your accounts.

How to move your OneDrive workflows

  1. Export from Pipedream.
  2. Upload on /convert; the free report lists every OneDrive step and the credential.
  3. Get the n8n JSON: 1 workflow is free; full export: $3 per workflow, $19 minimum — coming soon.

FAQ

Does n8n have a OneDrive trigger?
Yes. The Microsoft OneDrive Trigger polls for On File Created, On File Updated, On Folder Created and On Folder Updated, optionally inside a specific folder.
Why does my large upload fail?
The n8n OneDrive node uploads files up to 4 MB. Larger files need an upload session through HTTP Request with the same Microsoft credential.
Which OneDrive credential should I use in n8n?
OneDrive OAuth2 is the default. You can also use a generic Microsoft OAuth2 (Graph) credential with Files.ReadWrite.All, or a Microsoft Entra service principal for app-only access.
Do OneDrive steps convert automatically?
No. They arrive as placeholders with their props, and the report lists the Microsoft OneDrive credential to create.
